Welcome to the Sempach Town Hall Museum
The Sempach Town Hall houses since 2014 a newly designed museum devoted to local history. The multimedia exhibition presented on the four levels of the building offer an insight into the political, economical, social and religious life in Sempach from the Late Middle Ages to present days. The fully restored Town Hall, built in 1475, has thus also become a major historical landmark. The attic room is devoted to the Battle of Sempach that took place in 1386 and the Culture of Remembrance it induced. The emergence of the national hero Winkelried and the evolution of commemorative celebrations show how historical facts can be interpreted over the centuries, according to the ideological and political situation of the moment. Digital media accompany this encounter with history.
